Barcelona/Spain, Hsinchu/Taiwan and Kista/Sweden – February 23 2016 – MediaTek and Ericsson today announced successful testing to enable Wi-Fi calling across advanced MediaTek powered mobile devices and Ericsson’s mobile network. The collaboration will bring the advantages of Wi-Fi calling to a significantly larger base of devices and end-users.

“Our collaboration with Ericsson, a technology leader in mobile networks, assures our broad customer base that MediaTek’s Wi-Fi interworking is state-of-the-art,” said Jeffrey Ju, Executive Vice President and Co-Chief Operations Officer at MediaTek. “The comprehensive testing is a validation of our SoC reference base and reinforces our goal to bring the best technology and experiences to users around the world.”

The comprehensive suite of testing between a MediaTek based mobile device and the Ericsson Evolved Packet Core and EricssonIP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) included registration, idle and active call mobility – for example between Wi-Fi and LTE – SMS, voice and video calling and emergency services Wi-Fi calling.

These features, already available on Ericsson’s mobile network solution, are now also offered on MediaTek helio X and P series SoC’s – starting from helio P10 – and on all new 4G LTE smartphone SoC platforms from MediaTek.
